Well… like DJ mentioned, we kept going with these damn DCU movie commentaries. We didn’t really want to watch JL but we had to get it over with.

But hey it is still better then Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice, that’s something right? Don’t worry we will get back to the crappy but fun films that include a good old T&A drinking game.

So sit back and enjoy a okay film that’s somewhat coherent and looks a ton better then Dawn of Justice. Grab that beer and laugh at the terrible CG… and that laughable mustache removal…man that was horrible.

Oh and we added a new gimmick. Starting with Justice League, after every movie commentary we’ll spin a wheel to find out what we watch next. Fun stuff!

Wonder Woman

The follow contains neither official information nor photos. Only fan made photos, onset snaps and my thought on the rumors.

Batman might be the only thing I personally care about in life, but not for this film.

When we found Wonder Woman was going to be included I was extremely happy. I don’t like a film with too many characters, but this character is different. She can be utilized and give us a strong female presence in the film. In Man of Steel, Lois Lane to me felt flat. I like Amy Adams, but her performance in that film is just flat. Her emotions are dull and every time she spoke I cringed. You may not agree, I’ve brought this up many times before including in the podcast with disagreement opposing me. For me Wonder Woman could change this, but that’s not the main reason for my liking of her in this ever so sounding bloated film.

My reason is because Wonder Woman hasn’t ever been on the big screen and the last and only appearance was Lynda Carter in the late 70’s. Yes we had the 2011 never aired TV Pilot with Adrianne Palicki, which we hear was embarrassing. If I were a Wonder Woman fan like I would be with Batman, I’d be jumping like a kid on Christmas. This is big for the character and hopefully leads to a Wonder Woman film. DC could win this by making it to the finish line by bringing a female driven film, sadly Marvel has missed this. If this film is done right and this character comes through it will be paradise for comic book fans.

That costume is going to be very important. We already talked about the Bat suit, which I think they got right. Thou those ears would be nicer a bit longer and the logo is taking time. I get they’re going for the Miller look but it seems too much. With Wonder Woman I’m sure they will go down more with the New 52 road and that would be the smart option. There is no way I can see the shorts making its way into the design.

Now let’s take about her, the new Wonder Woman.

Gal Gadot has drawn big criticism, possibly more then Ben. But if she can do a fine job, it will magnify as BIG. Why because we haven’t seen this before. If she blows it, it will echo loud. She has a lot riding on her back, and I don’t think she should have a problem. She hasn’t acted much, but from what I have seen she could do a okay job. Her ability to do her own fight scenes is a win and her voice can add a nice twist on her amazon roots Her beauty is key as well. Watching a clip from Fast and Furious 6 during my research I can see the Wonder Woman, I can see Diana Prince.

She might not be the first choice for everyone; my first was Jaimie Alexander from Thor. She would be perfect but we don’t live in a perfect world, Gal Gadot should do fine and if she does a great job the treat we as comic fans will fall head over heels seeing Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman on he big screen.

Regarding her being too skinny. She is very skinny and this could be a issue. But luckily from what we hear she’s been hitting the gym and adding some muscle just like Ben. So there is a sigh of relief.

Right now I’d rate Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman a B

But that can change fast once I see the costume.

But the scariest thing for me, where muscle does play a big part in is our next post.

Simplistic Reviews Picks (on) The Oscars!

It’s that time of year again.   The time of year where overprivileged stars get together, shake hands, say how much they appreciate each other, attend the Vanity Fair after-party, get smashed, and yeah…win awards.

Our job here at Simplistic Reviews, besides being jealous of these actors, is to decide who will win, and who will lose.  It’s Oscar time ladies and germs!

The 86th Annual Academy Awards are this Sunday, March 2nd, and to commemorate this special occasion DJ, Justin, Neal, who has been dubbed “The Voice of the People”, and Matt are picking the winners.

To make things easier, we are color coding their picks.  In the event of the same picks multiple colors will be added per winner.  Throughout the night, this post will be updated with the winners along with a running total of who has the most correct picks.  The boys will also be live tweeting the awards in an effort to mock every horrible outfit and every clunky acceptance speech.  Follow @srblogspot@chezitman and @tryingtobedjv for all types of hilarity.

Early Returns: American Hustle

American Hustle – Silky

The name David O. Russell can evoke a lot of emotions, especially if you talk to either George Clooney or Lily Tomlin.  The man has the special talent to bring both the best, and worst, out in people.  While there is no doubt Russell can be called a total prick, there is also no doubt that the guy has been putting out quality films since “Spanking the Monkey” all the way back in 1994.  Almost 20 years later, Russell has released his most refined, and silky, film to date in “American Hustle,” starring the likes of Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Russell’s newest muse, Jennifer Lawrence.

“Hustle” is the tale of two con artists (Bale and Adams) who are forced to join forces with an FBI Agent (Bradley Cooper) who has entirely too much to prove. The unlikely trio set out to uncover corruption that involves a fake sheik, members of Congress, the Mafia, and a local mayor of Camden, New Jersey, played by Jeremy Renner.  Throw in a nagging wife, played wonderfully by Lawrence, and those are the basics of “Hustle.”

While I might have just simplified the plot for spoiler’s-sake above, the film is much more than your standard grifters-on-the-run-from-the-law story.  I’d liken “Hustle” very much to “Goodfellas” in it’s storytelling and use of the 1970s as the backdrop.  I also mention “Goodfellas” in it’s use of a very interesting cameo that I won’t mention, again, for spoiler’s-sake.

While I will commend Russell for his direction and vision, the acting really shines in “Hustle.”  I have no doubt in my mind that all four main actors, Adams, Bale, Cooper, and Lawrence, will be up for Oscars come February.  I’ll even go as far as saying that this will be Adams’ Oscar year.  Her turn as Sydney Prosser is magical, and proves that Adams is one of the best actresses in the business that still seems to be overlooked.  Lawrence steals the show in the scenes she’s in, and the same goes for Cooper.  Bale is the rock of the film however, and provides a calming cool to the insanity that seems to swirl around him.  Renner is fine in his role as Mayor Carmine Polito, but one of the best unsung performances will go to Louis C.K, who plays the brow-beaten boss of Cooper’s unhinged FBI Agent.

Like I mentioned before, this is Russell’s “Goodfellas.”  Loosely based on actual events, Russell weaves a story that has you guessing until the very end, and much like Martin Scorsese does in most of his films, music plays a major part.  Russell picks some of the best music from 70’s, and makes Duke Ellington, and his music, one of the points of attraction between Bale and Adams’ characters, and it makes sense in the scheme, no pun intended, of things.  Jazz artists like Ellington had to improve all the time, it’s the heartbeat of jazz, improvisation, and you can say the same thing for people running cons; constant improvisation.  The allegory is fantastic, if you catch it, but it’s not entirely relevant to the overall plot, just a cute little thing that Russell throws into his film.

At it’s core, “Hustle” is a caper film in the spirit of “Jackie Brown” and “Catch Me If You Can.”  It has spunk, heart, and like I said before, is silky smooth, with plenty of style to spare.  Best film of the year?  Let’s not quite go there yet, but if “Hustle” is any inclination of the films to come the rest of 2013, we should be in store for plenty of treats the rest of the month of December.  Christmas comes early with “American Hustle.”

Fun Fact:  The story of “American Hustle” is loosely based on the events of ABSCAM, in the late 1970s and 1980s.
